WHAT’S A JUJUBE?
A sweet, fleshy berry-like fruit well-known for its extraordinary range of beauty and wellness benefits.
A relatively unknown superfood in Western mainstream, the jujube has long been valued in Asia for literally thousands of years thanks to its anti-aging and holistic wellness nutrition.
Fresh jujubes have a sweet and tart apple-like taste BUT with a short shelf life once picked.
Dried jujubes, with significantly longer shelf life, have a richer sweetness likened to that of caramel and palm dates. Packed with nutrition — just 2-3 of our dried jujubes provide 100% RDI of Vitamin C!
Be mindful that the jujube is a stone fruit and contains a pit in the center.

JUJUME’S JUJUBES
We believe our jujubes are of the best in the world. Use the “+” buttons to learn why!
-
A recent study by the American Society for Horticultural Science reported the ‘Li’ variety (i.e. cultivar) as having one of the highest antioxidant activity among jujubes.
Antioxidants help prevent premature aging!
In addition, a quick web search will show that jujube connoisseurs also consider 'Li' jujube as one of the largest, sweetest and aesthetically pleasing.
-
We only use USDA certified organic jujubes in our products. What does this mean?
NO GMO, chemical pesticides or non-organic inputs used in the farming.
NO artificial anything used at any point in the manufacturing process.
ZERO added sugar — naturally sweet!
All verifiable with the CCOF — California’s top organic certifying organization for the USDA.
Many competitors source from regions known for poor food safety and are unable/unwilling to verify “all natural” claims (and often do not even reveal their source.)
JUJUME is all about accountable quality. Our products and processes are truly all natural — from our farm to your table!
-
Our jujubes are grown in California's Southern Mojave Desert where temperatures regularly surpass 100°F!
This is an ideal climate for the 'Li' jujube because this cultivar thrives in the scorching hot environments.
Studies show that hot and dry weather helps the jujube plant produce sweeter, larger and more nutritious fruit (assuming there is sufficient watering).
Luckily, our organic farm uses modern irrigation systems ensuring all the jujube plants stay consistently flushed with clean water!
-
Being certified USDA organic, JUJUME's jujube farms operate under the rigorous quality control standards established by the United States Department of Agriculture for organic certification.
Maintaining organic certification is an annual process.
Every year an organic inspector visits our California farm to verify in person that all farming and manufacturing practices fulfill the USDA’s organic requirements.
Our families are also daily consumers of JUJUME products so rest assured maintaining a high quality standard is of upmost priority.
Many other jujube brands source their fruit from regions with poor food safety track records to lower costs. It is often impossible to ensure that these overseas suppliers operate according to the rigorous quality control desired by Western consumers.
We strongly recommend you maintain knowledge of where your products come from - especially if they're going inside your body! ☺ Here’s to your health and wellness!
BEAUTY BENEFITS
Research shows the jujube’s anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants fight signs of premature aging.
-
Recently, Elsevier, one of the world's leading providers of scientific/medical research, analyzed the antioxidant qualities of the jujube fruit. The results clearly indicate high antioxidant capacities and a high content of total phenolics, flavonoids, and anthocyanins.
Consequently, consuming jujubes on a regular basis has been proven to keep various signs of premature aging at bay. The jujube is scientifically proven to be rich with antioxidants. The fruit’s powerful antioxidants (e.g. vitamin C, vitamin A) and organic compounds (e.g. polyphenols, phytonutrients, flavonoids) protect skin cells from oxidative stress — the stuff that causes wrinkles (and also turn bananas brown).
This in turn slows down signs of aging like wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots. In addition, existing wrinkles and scars are less pronounced by keeping your skin tight and energized with oxygenated blood.
In other words, the jujube is scientifically proven to be an effective solution to fighting premature aging.

While jujubes cannot change genetic factors related to hair loss, it is a potent solution to counter lifestyle factors like malnutrition, stress and inflammation.
In addition to facial skin, the jujube's beauty benefits are also effective for nourishing the hair and scalp. There are toxic compounds in the body known as free radicals that wreak havoc in the form of oxidative stress, destroying hair follicle cells, along with DNA and other cell structures.
To give you a visual, imagine your hair follicle is a peeled apple, then the free radicals are what drive the oxidative damage which turns that "peeled apple" brown to decay.
Enter the jujube - chock full of antioxidants (e.g. vitamin C, vitamin A), organic compounds (e.g. polyphenols, phytonutrients), and minerals (e.g. zinc, iron, and copper).
Combined they fight hair loss and stimulate new hair growth by keeping free radicals (i.e. the “apple browner”) under control preventing further damage to the follicles and promoting new growth of follicles.
In addition, the jujube boosts blood circulation ensuring that your hair follicles and scalp are provided with sufficient nourishment via your circulatory system. Remember, a well-nourished scalp lowers the risk of further hair loss, promotes stronger, healthier hair, and treats other annoying conditions like scalp acne and dandruff.

Stress is our body's fight-or-flight response, and it’s triggered when our sympathetic nervous system senses a “threat”. Research has linked stress and exhaustion to causing premature crow’s feet, frown lines and under-eye wrinkles. Whether this “threat” is an upcoming presentation at work, or an angry mama bear charging towards you, your body kicks into action and produces large quantities of stress hormones: cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenaline.
Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, breaks down the collagen in your skin as well as promotes belly fat. The more stressed you are, the more your body produces cortisol depleting your collagen levels. Eventually, your skin cells won’t be able to keep up with the rate of elastin and collagen depletion. And, what causes wrinkles? That’s right, a loss of elastin and collagen.
Jujube has been scientifically proven to moderate stress hormone levels and provide soothing anxiolytic effects. With stress hormones under control, you’re left with a calming, relaxed sensation throughout your mind and body.
If you're prone to suffer from chronic stress or anxiety, jujube products can help ease the mind and protect the body from the negative effects of stress hormones, like wrinkles.
-
One common cause of acne is the clogging of your skin pores due to the accumulation of toxins, pollutants and other unwanted substances inside them.
Jujubes detox skin and prevent acne by efficiently eliminating toxins, pollutants, and impurities from our body (and ultimately our skin pores). This detoxification is thanks to the jujube's antioxidants and organic compounds (e.g. vitamin A, vitamin C, phytonutrients, flavonoids, polyphenols, saponins, alkaloids) directly connected to eliminating unwanted substances from your system. With fewer toxins in your system there are less to fill up your skin pores ultimately lowering the likelihood of new pimples forming.
Another common reason for acne is excessive oil secretion. The jujube keeps your cortisol levels — the stress hormon — from going overboard. Excessive cortisol leads to oil glands producing excess oil which traps all the nasty stuff we mentioned earlier.
-
Quality sleep is a critical factor to an effective beauty regimen — hey, it’s not called "beauty rest" for nothing!
While you’re asleep your body repairs and recovers; for example, your skin produces new collagen, and your body circulates blood flow to the skin.
If you're catching at least the recommended 7-9 hours, this can result in a list of beauty benefits such as glowing skin, under-eye tightness, and healthier, fuller hair.
But what if you can't fall asleep?
For literally thousands of years, jujubes have been used in traditional Eastern medicine to naturally improve sleep and treat insomnia. This superfood's organic flavonoids and saponins create a sedating and hypnotic effect, making for perfect conditions to induce sleep naturally.
In fact, many integrative and homeopathic medical professionals often recommend jujubes as an all natural sleep aid over prescription sleeping pills (which can leave you groggy and hungover the next day).
So, if you’re having problems falling asleep at night then give the pills a break and try jujubes or jujube tea earlier on for a restful sleep in a natural, healthy way.

Needless to say, overeating is a major cause of obesity.
According to a study published in the Journal of Natural Remedies, jujubes have a relatively low-caloric density but relatively high protein and fiber levels. This means you can feel full and fulfill daily nutritional needs without exceeding your daily caloric budget.
Not only does it help suppress hunger, but it also manages the level of serum glucose, lipid levels which helps reduce the amount of fat around your internal organs (especially your belly!).
A 2019 study at the human ecology labs of Sookmyung University (one of South Korea’s top schools) concluded that jujubes have therapeutic effects against obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome.
In other words, for those who dine out often and/or have fatty diets, jujube extracts and supplements are especially beneficial.
HEALTH BENEFITS
Rich in vitamins, minerals, and organic compounds to provide a broad range of everyday wellness.

Research from institutions around the world report that the jujube is a natural agent to inhibit and treat human cancers like breast cancer, colon cancer, and pancreatic cancer, for example.
This effect is attributed to the fruit's high concentration of antioxidants (e.g. vitamin C, vitamin A) and organic compounds (e.g. phytonutrients, polyphenols). Collectively, these elements stabilize free radicals in the human body preventing further oxidative damage to its cells. If gone unchecked, oxidative damage can lead to chronic inflammation which in turn can cause DNA damage and, ultimately, can lead to cancer.
For a more visual explanation, think about how a peeled apple turns brown when exposed to air. Our cells can also "turn brown" (i.e. oxidative damage) when we breathe in oxygen - and free radicals are the culprit. They form in our body during this oxidation process and when unstabilized they steal electrons from nearby molecules causing oxidative damage. Simply put, the jujube conjunctively counteracts this unstabilization hindering further "browning" of our cells.
There are quite a few in-vitro studies that have proven the ability of jujube extract in preventing the spread of cancer cells. One study done at the University of Cambria showed that it could effectively slow down the spread of, and even kill, malignant breast cancer cells Another study done in Iran exhibited the ability of jujube extract in inhibiting the spread of cancerous tumor cell lines, especially leukemia cell lines.

Sleep is a vital factor in staying healthy. It's the time when our body repairs damaged cells, relaxes muscles, rids of toxins, among a number of other functions to maintain our overall health and appearance.
Consequently, in order to look and feel healthy, lower stress hormones, and increase growth hormones, it is important for us to make sure that we are getting a good quality and quantity of sleep.
Jujubes have been used in Chinese medicines for thousands of years as a natural sleep aid. Saponins, a natural compound found in jujube, are what create the sedative and hypnotic effect enabling one to fall asleep and stay asleep.
If you'd rather not take habit-forming pharmaceutical sleep aids, holistic medical experts recommend to jujubes or jujube tea to naturally treat your insomnia.

Jujube nutrition is generally beneficial for all but there are benefits exclusive to women.
A study conducted in Iran tracked a group of lactating mothers who ate 15 grams of jujubes a day for 2 months to test the fruit's effectiveness in lowering levels of lead and cadmium in breast milk. At the end of the trial, the reports showed that the group of women who had eaten jujubes had lower levels of these toxic elements in their milk as opposed to the control group. Not only do jujubes show strong promise for treating breast cancer, it also has benefits for nursing mothers.
The jujube is rich in both iron and phosphorous, which are key components of red blood cells and enrich / replenish blood. Logically, this is an added benefit for women during that special time of the month. Holistic medical experts recommend women eat jujubes particularly during menstruation to offset the fatigue and other unpleasant side effects caused by the blood loss.

Protect yourselves from UV rays on the outside by applying high SPF sunblock lotion as well as on the inside by eating nutritious foods like the jujube!
While the sun does enrich our bodies with vitamin D, it also hurts us via strong UV rays. These rays are dangerous and cause oxidative damage to our cells and tissues increasing the risk of various disorders including cancer. For example, UV rays cause corneal damage (increasing the risk of cataracts and glaucoma), and skin damage (increasing the risk of wrinkles, liver spots, actinic keratosis, and skin cancer.)
The jujube's antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin A) and organic compounds (polyphenols and phytonutrients) protect our cells and tissues from this oxidative damage while simultaneously maintaining skin health.
Interesting fact: some people even apply pulp made from jujube topically to relieve pain and inflammation after sunburn.
-
Having 32x more vitamin C than any citrus fruit, jujubes are right with vitamin C - a powerful antioxidant that helps fend off harmful free radicals from body.
Vitamin C helps boost your immune system by encouraging the growth of T-cells (aka the white blood cells of your immune system). These cells actively protect you from colds, infections, and other diseases.
Because of mucilaginous property of the fruit, jujube extracts are also used to treat sore throats.
Jujubes also have 18 important amino acids which drives formation of more than 50,000 proteins of the body helping synthesize connective tissue and supporting wound repair - in other words, jujubes helps in the healing process as well as in the defense efforts.
In addition, the jujube's positive effects on gastrointestinal health conjunctively boosts your immune system. Gut bacteria is your immunity's first line of defense and the jujube's protective properties keep them balanced and healthy.
Furthermore, jujube is a natural enemy to many species of fungus including Candida albicans - a leading driver for various infections. Jujube extract also has antibacterial activity against harmful Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria including Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli - both culprits in causing difficult-to-treat illnesses.

Eating jujubes can improve your heart health in a couple of ways.
First, the jujube has noteworthy levels of potassium. The potassium helps your blood vessels stay relaxed which keeps your blood flow and blood pressure at healthy levels and in turn contributes to your heart health.
Second, jujubes can serve as a preventative measure against heart attacks. Studies showed that jujubes helped lower the amount of lipids in the blood of obese adolescents, thereby reducing their chance of developing heart disease.
The fruit is reported to work as an antiatherogenic agent, meaning that it helps prevent fat from lining your artery walls which conjunctively helps reduce the chances of a heart attack.
-
Being constipated can be a real pain in the butt leaving you in a state of, say, “unfulfillment”.
Having consistent bowel movements, or "staying regular", usually indicates a healthy digestive system, and helps avoid the discomfort of diarrhea and constipation.
Jujubes are linked to improving digestive processes within the body in two ways.
Firstly, the jujube's saponins and triterpenoids make sure that the nutrients from what you eat are sufficiently absorbed by your body.
Secondly, the fiber content helps enable smooth and regular bowel movements.
Conjunctively, jujubes can ensure that you are free from constipation, flatulence, bloating or other digestive troubles.
-
When your blood circulation is healthy, your organs are receiving adequate oxygen, and you feel generally fresher and full of energy.
Those that suffer from low iron content in their blood can experience impeded blood flow and consequently be depriving their organs of optimal oxygen. This can lead to symptoms like muscle weakness, fatigue, indigestion, lightheadedness, and cognitive fogginess.
The jujube is rich in both iron and phosphorous, two components that play a vital role in the formation of red blood cells and overall blood circulation. By increasing your iron and phosphorous intake, you increase blood flow ultimately oxygenating your organ systems more effectively.
-
It's common knowledge that stress is a killer.
Jujubes have been scientifically proven to provide natural anxiolytic and soothing effects on the body.
This explains why Eastern medicine practitioners often prescribe them as a natural antidepressant, anti-anxiety and anti-stress food.
Consuming the fruit, or an extract, can have a positive impact on hormone levels and induce a calm, relaxed sensation throughout mind and body.
For people who regularly suffer from chronic stress or anxiety, consuming jujubes and/or extracts can help ease the mind and protect the body from the broad range of unpleasant side effects from extended exposure to stress hormones.
-
The jujube contains saponins, alkaloids and triterpenoids which are directly associated with purifying the blood and eliminating harmful toxins from the body’s systems. This antioxidant effect can help prevent a large number of diseases and also ease the stress on the immune and lymphatic systems.
Jujubes are also known for lowering blood sugar level making it potentially useful as a defense against, and as a natural treatment for, diabetes and other metabolic disorders.
Scientists believe the fruit's effect on lowering blood sugar comes from its high concentration of Vitamin A, which is known for improving insulin sensitivity. Research also indicates the jujube's positive effect on adiponectin - a hormone that regulates blood glucose and other metabolic markers.
However, if you are diabetic, please consult your physician first on whether jujubes can be a suitable supplement to include in your diet.

If you’re looking for a natural solution to help boost your brain activity, then check out the jujube.
Each 100 grams of jujube (approximately 7-8 of them) provides 3 mg of catechins — a type of phenol/antioxidant.
According to a published study written by the School of Food and Nutritional Sciences and the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (i.e. Japan’s University of Shizuoka) catechins help you think clearer and show strong potential to be used in the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
Another study done from this University reported that mice fed with catechin-rich diets improved deteriorated and spatial memory.
A joint study between Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology showed that jujubes possess neuroprotective activities, including protecting neuronal cells against neurotoxin stress, stimulating neuronal differentiation, increasing expression of neurotrophic factors, and promoting memory and learning. The fruit's bioactive ingredients flavonoid, cAMP, and jujuboside are considered the potential driving force behind the aforesaid brain activities.
These findings further imply that jujube is a strong candidate for developing health supplements that prevent and/or treat neurological diseases.
On a related note, jujubes also show promise in fighting Alzheimer’s disease. The fruit activates key enzymes in the brain replenishing the vital neurotransmitters needed to prevent memory loss - the most common symptom of the disease.
Moreover, jujube extract also boosted nerve cell growth and development in the dentate gyrus area, which is one of two areas in the brain where new nerve cells develop.
Collectively, these scientific studies all support that the jujube is the superfood to consider when looking to nurture the brain and hone your cognitive senses.

An experimental study done feeding jujube extract to seizure-induced mice showed promising results.
Mice were treated with jujube extract before being induced with seizures. The results demonstrated improved learning and memory and reduced oxidative stress as compared to the control group.
This shows a promising correlation that jujubes can significantly reduce the brain damage caused by seizures.
As we age, our brain cells start deterioriating creating greater vulnerability to a number of neurological disorders. Jujubes can help keep these disorders at bay by hindering the activity of glutamate - an excitatory neurotransmitter which can cause brain damage in people who have suffered from a stroke, seizures, or Parkinson’s disease.
Jujubes also improve the functioning of astrocytes (a star-shaped cell in the central nervous system) responsible for protecting the brain's neurons by controlling antioxidant enzyme levels conjunctively preventing the development of brain diseases.
